What is going on? (optional)

What we handle.

  • Steam and hot water boilers
  • No heat and uneven heat between floors
  • Banging pipes on steam systems
  • Leaking relief valves
  • Circulator pumps and low-water cutoffs
  • Pre-season cleanings and transfer coil cleaning
  • Thermocouples and gas valves

Somebody still has to work on these.

A large share of the housing in Forest Hills, Kew Gardens Hills, Whitestone, and Jamaica Estates is heated by a boiler, and plenty of those boilers are older than the people living with them. Newer techs come up on forced air and ductless, so when a steam system acts up the usual answer is a replacement quote.

Our technicians work on them. Steam is not mysterious, it is just physics and maintenance, and most of what goes wrong on these systems is fixable for a small fraction of a replacement.

What a real cleaning does.

One customer's Triangle boiler had never had its transfer coils cleaned. The amount of soot that came out was remarkable, and the system ran cheaper afterward because the burner was no longer fighting an insulating layer of carbon between the flame and the water.

That is the whole case for annual service. Soot on the coils, sediment in the bottom, a lazy low-water cutoff, and clogged air vents each cost you fuel quietly all winter. Cleaning them is routine work that pays for itself on the Con Ed and National Grid bills.

Book the fall tune-up before the first cold night.

The calendar goes solid the week the temperature drops. Early fall is the right time for a boiler cleaning and safety check: burner, controls, low-water cutoff, relief valve, vent condition, and the water level or pressure depending on the system.

Review

“It is getting harder and harder to find someone who works with boilers. He cleaned the transfer coils of my Triangle boiler. The amount of soot that had accumulated was amazing. I suspect this will mean more efficient, cost-saving operation when winter sets in.”

FAQ

Boiler Repair questions.

One pipe going into each radiator with a little vent on the side that hisses means steam. Two pipes, one at each end, usually means hot water with a circulator pump. We service both, so either answer is fine.

That is condensate pooling where steam wants to travel, usually from a radiator or a pipe run that has lost its pitch, or from failed vents. It is often fixable with pitch correction and vent work rather than a new boiler.

Early fall, before the rush. September and October are open. Once the first freeze hits, the schedule is full of no-heat calls and routine cleanings get pushed.
